One Man Hand

Hey Syphilites,


One Man Hand is a bluesy one-man-band from Portugal. He has released a 7" 'We are all in the same boat' in 2008 and a full-length 'Mafia Trip' which, as far as I can tell, will be released later this year. You can download the single 'Red Light House' over at Soundcloud. 


I found two more songs by the same man at 1bigo, which I think is his booking agent. I can't tell. I don't speak Portuguese.

Hey Syphilits,


Came across this via Bluesboy Jag's myspace (who says it's dead?) - He plays the his Cigar Box Guitar (CBG) in it. He also makes them and sells them from this website. I posted about Bluesboy Jag before here, and this is his Facebook page.


The Band is Voodoo Sauce. The song is 'She's Evil' - Pretty basic video, but I like the feel of it and the passion. Definitely wait for the photo of the bride in the end of the video.

Hey Syphilites,


Joe Hill Louis, according to Wikipedia, "...was an American singer, guitarist, harmonica player and one-man band. He is significant, along with fellow Memphis bluesman Doctor Ross as one of only a small number of one-man blues bands to have recorded commercially in the 1950s, and as a session musician for Sun Records." Louis recorded with a band as well as a one-man-band.

Sweet Jesus my dear Syphilites,


This is incredible: Cheese Finger Brown is a Dutch One-Man-Band residing in Finland. He sounds like a mix of C.W. Stoneking - Charlie Patton  - Abner Jay - A genuine one-man minstrel show.


There is a great article about Cheese Finger Brown on audioscribbler.co.uk right here. There is an email you can contact if you want to buy records, but I'm not sure if it is still in use. I am in the process of finding out for you, my Syphilites, where and how we can buy his stuff. Because I want it, and after you listen to these videos and me the songs in his myspace, you will want to buy his gear too.

Shaking Ray Levi's Festival - 1993 - Roots, Blues, Jazz

This is a pretty interesting mini-documentary with some nice showcases of some legendary roots musicians. It has one-man-band Abner Jay (Myspace)playing 'hambone' in the first part. I posted about Abner Jay before here. The film is by Michael Johnson. Part 1 is particularly good. Part 2 is a bit too experimental for my liking, but who knows you might be into it. 


This is part 1: "Over three days in April, 1993 at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, TN, the Shaking Ray Levi Society presented an incredibly diverse music festival with internationally acclaimed artists. 

This is the first part of a 20-minute mini-documentary about the festival, featuring footage from "the last working Southern black minstrel" Abner Jay (his final featured performance), saxophonist and MacArthur "genius grant" recipient Anthony Braxton, and Kelly Hogan (the Jody Grind, Neko Case) with Bill Taft (the Jody Grind, Hubcap City). The Documentary is by filmmaker Michael Johnson." (Description From Youtube)

The festival was organised by the Shaking Ray Levi Society.The SLRS is 'a collective-run non-profit that supports, produces and presents diverse genres of music, film and performance art through festivals, recordings and the Internet.
